Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will an automatic sprinkler system do as good a watering job as I can do by hand?

A. An automatic sprinkler system will do a much better job than hand watering because the system waters automatically, placing exactly the right amount of water on individual lawn and garden areas.  It never gets too busy to water properly, and it never forgets to turn the water off at the appropriate time.

Q. Will the system use more water than I'm currently using?

A. No.  In fact, a watering system will actually conserve water while doing a better job of watering.  You'll never have to worry about runoff from over-watering or wasting water when you forget to turn off the hose.  And with Rain Check, your system will know when it is raining and simply shut itself off when water is not needed.

Q. We generally get about 50 inches of rainfall a year.  Do we really need a sprinkler system with that much rain?

A. If it rained at your house every three days the same exact amount each time, you probably wouldn't need a sprinkler system.  But nature doesn't work that way, and the only way to ensure healthy, lush plant growth is to make certain your lawn and plants receive a regularly timed, evenly measured amount of water.  In the dry season when there is little or no rain, your yard can suffer damage after just a few days without water.

Q. Will having a sprinkler system really save me time?

A. When you have an automatic sprinkler system installed at your home,  you simply can forget about watering.  No more worrying about finding the time to water everything you should or remembering to move the hose and turn off the water.  Your new sprinkler system will practically run itself, following your instructions to a tee, even when you are away from home.

Q. Are there different types of systems from which to choose?

A. There are many irrigation products manufactured by different companies.  Many of these firms make only a component or two of the complete system.  Water Flow Productions stocks and recommends using components from the top names in irrigation such as Rainbird and Nelson.

Although every system should be tailored to meet individual needs, a typical system will be comprised of a controller , valves, and sprinklers.  Please see the irrigation components page for information on each component.

Q. How do I know what type of system is best for me and why do the irrigation bids I have received vary so much?

A. It's always best to work with a professional irrigation contractor who is knowledgeable about factors such as water supply and pressure, soil type, planting materials and weather conditions, all of which must be considered in determining the products needed for your system.  Remember, an irrigation system should be customized to meet specific site requirements because every landscaping situation is different.

Q. Can I save money by installing the system myself?

A. Definitely not!  In fact, it could cost you more money in the long run.  Water Flow Productions can design and install the most cost-effective and energy-efficient system possible while streamlining the maintenance required to keep your landscaping in top shape.

Water Flow Productions pays special attention to such important factors as sprinkler patterns (it is important to overlap the patterns so that the outer edges receive the sufficient water for healthy growth) and back flow prevention (which is necessary to protect your drinking water supply).  Because we are familiar with local plumbing and electrical codes, you won't have to worry about costly mistakes in wiring or pipe installation.  We can do the job faster, with less disruption to the existing landscaping, and will guarantee our work.

Q. Will the system be too complicated for me to operate?

A. Most new sprinkler systems are easy to operate.  Water Flow Productions will set the system's controller with your individual watering schedule.  Then all you have to do is sit back and let the system do all the work.  The watering schedule can be easily changed if necessary by just following the easy instructions on the inside of the controller cabinet.  Water Flow Productions personnel will work with you to explain the system's operation.

Q. How much will a good system cost?

A. The price of the system will vary depending on the labor costs and individual variables such as property size, type of landscaping and special designs.  Water Flow Productions will design and recommend the right system for you at the lowest possible cost.
